A Call for Papers

The Centre for the Book at the University of Otago will be holding a two day symposium on Collectors/Collecting/Collections on 17 & 18 October 2013.

 

On the evening of 17 October in the Dunningham Room, Dunedin Public Library, Jim E. Traue, ex-Turnbull Librarian, Wellington, will give an open lecture entitled: ‘Treasured up on purpose to a life beyond life’.

Call for new inscriptions to UNESCO Memory of the World register

 

The UNESCO Memory of the World New Zealand Committee is calling for inscriptions to the Memory of the World Programme’s documentary heritage register for 2013.

 

Submissions to the Memory of the World New Zealand documentary heritage register for 2013 close on 16 August 2013.  The successful inscriptions will be announced in October.

 

Gasworks150 Heritage Symposium and Festival News

AN IMPORTANT HERITAGE EVENT FOR OCTOBER 2013

2013 marks the 150th anniversary of the first production of town gas in New Zealand. This event took place at the Dunedin Gasworks which operated from 1863 to 1987, being the last gasworks to close in New Zealand.

The Gasworks played a significant role in Dunedin’s industrial,economic and social growth from 1863 until its closure in 1987.
